Student Model: Walnut body and spruce soundboard, three strings, 14/1 chrome machines, great balance high, medium and low.
|
Red Model: Walnut back and sides with either a Redwood or Western Red Cedar soundboard: Redwood for a bright and traditional sound, Western Red Cedar for a warm, woody sound with dominant bass drive.

Appalachian Model: Walnut body and resonator back, two soundboards, one Spruce and one Palonia, high ratio gold or chrome machines, Ebony or Rosewood overlay. Note: MMD generally recommends the standard Appalachian for its great balance of high, medium and low. For those who prefer a brighter, clearer, happier, more traditional sound, two Spruce soundboards are available. For those who prefer a stronger and plunkier sound, two Palonia soundboards are available.
|
The DREAM: Walnut top, sides and back with a low density bottom soundboard, high ratio chrome or gold machines. Note: The MMD DREAM is a dulcimer different from others currently available in the dulcimer market. It projects sound outward rather than upward into the player's ear. This allows the player to hear precisely what everyone else hears. For this reason, MMD recommends DREAM dulcimers only for more experienced players, because new and intermediate players generally find it helpful to hear themselves better than others in the group.

Some examples are four string equidistant, five string extended range, six string double course, Tennessee Music Boxes, acoustic/electric, and a variety of woods such as Maple, Cherry, Lacewood, Rosewood, Koa, etc. Call MMD (or email your phone number) to discuss your custom dulcimer. This direct contact will help us work out the details of your order and avoid misunderstandings. There are lots of possibilities!
